A set of scale-model tests was carried out at the wave basin of the Leibniz University Hannover to extend the range of wave steepness values analysed in run-up, overtopping and armour layer stability studies, focusing on oblique extreme wave conditions and on their effects on a gentler slope breakwater’s trunk armour and roundhead. A set of scale-model tests carried out to enlarge the range of wave steepness values analysed in run-up, overtopping and armour layer stability studies, focusing on oblique extreme wave conditions and on their effects on a gentler slope breakwater's trunk armour and roundhead, is presented in this paper. A stretch of a rubble mound breakwater (head and part of the adjoining trunk, with a slope of 1(V):2(H)) was built in a wave basin at the Leibniz University Hannover to assess, under extreme wave conditions (wave steepness of 0.055) with different incident wave angles (from 40° to 90°), the structure behaviour in what concerns wave run-up, wave overtopping and damage progression of the armour layer. Two types of armour elements (rock and Antifer cubes) were tested. Non-intrusive methodologies including a new application of laser scanning technique for the assessment of both armour layer damage and wave run-up and overtopping were used. It is expected that such work will contribute also with data to improve empirical formulas as well as to validate complex numerical model for wave-structure interaction.

This dataset was obtained from the experiments done with Ground Condolidators at the TU Delft. In this experiment, several execution methodes were tested. The data comes from several measurements at the flume. The main part of the data was taken from camera recordings. These camera recordings (both of the execution and the demolition phase of the mattresses) are included in this dataset.@en

The permeability of a breakwater is of great importance for the stability of the armour layer. The influence of the structural permeability on the stability of rock armour units was already researched by Van der Meer using the 'notional' permeabiltiy. However, for single layer interlocking armour units the influence core permeability is rather unfamiliar. The goal of this research is to extend the knowledge on the failure mechanism of the armour layer for different structural permeability. To achieve this goal, model tests are conducted in the permeameter of the Technical University of Delft and in the wave flume of Delta Marine Consultants, Utrecht. The tests show that the stability of the armour layer decreases with increasing and decreasing core permeability.@en

This data-set includes water level measurements and height measurements of the damage to near-bed structures. Due to waves which impose a current damage develops to near-bed structures. Waves are measured by wave gauges and the height of the near-bed structure is measured using an echo-sounder. 10 Tests have been performed for which all data is uploaded. Calculating scripts and an overview has been included as well. Photos of the experiment are included to visualize the damage development.@en
